Laced-up bowl

celadon green
For this ceramic bowl I used the negative shape of  a balloon. I made in 2009/2010 laced- up vases and I always wanted to do something with the shape inside the mould. It also reminds me of sliced fruit or vegetables.

Photoshoot at Hycroft

This is one of the results of two months hard working at Medalta. The pitcher, the cup and the soup bowl is inspired by Hycroft china ware.
The Medalta Artist-in-residence program is in the middle of the Historic Clay District in Medicine Hat. It is surrounded by the I-XL brick factory, the Museum, Plainsman and offcourse the Hycroft factory

Medicine Hat, ' The Clay city'

Set against the dramatic cliffs of the South Saskatchewan River in Medicine Hat Alberta, the 150-acre Historic Clay District was once home to the earliest industry in Western Canada. Today the history of the once-dominant pottery & clay industry is being revived with the iconic Medalta Potteries National Historic Site.
I live in Medicine Hat for almost two months because I am doing a residency at Medalta.
Medicine Hat, is actually called The Gas city . Medicine Hat has been known for its large natural gas fields. But I like Medicine Hat ' The Clay city' more.

One week to go!

Kelly from Vancouver is my new neighbour at Medalta.
Kelly is helping me with throwing a ring, for my 'laced-up bowl'.
Here I will press mold my slab for the 'laced-up bowl'.
About a week you will see the results!

Als de kat van huis is...

Together with Emma Hazenak we made a little movie in 2011. The movie is finally finished, we're thankful to Bas de Leijer, Sint-lucas Beeldende Kunst Gent, Jaap Rovers and Jorn ten Hoopen.
Watch de movie here.
A project of Aniek Meeldijk and Emma Hazenak.
The little mouses on the bowls are stills from the animation film 'When the cat's away, the mice will play' (Als de kat van huis is dansen de muizen).  Aniek created the ceramic bowls. Emma made the animation with a glaze on the bowls.
